Join Our Team!
We are always interested in inquiries to join the lab and value diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and experience. See below for more detail, but while you’re here, why not learn more about The University of Iowa’s storied history in psychological and brain research or life in Iowa City?
Fall 2025: All hands on deck! We will be looking to hire at all levels with links below to public job postings coming soon!
Postdoctoral Fellows
Please email me (scott-bolkan at uiowa.edu) with your CV, a brief description of your research background, interests, and reasons for applying to the lab, and contact information for 2-3 references.
Graduate Students
We accept students through the Psychological and Brain Sciences Graduate Program and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience. Please email me (scott-bolkan at uiowa.edu) if you are interested in applying to either program, or if you are a current Neuroscience graduate student interested in a lab rotation.
Undergraduate Students
Please fill out this interest form.
We accept UI students interested in gaining research experience from all majors, and have projects suitable for computer science, engineering, biology, psychology, and neuroscience students. We prioritize undergraduates based on alignment of interests, academic year, and time commitment to the lab.
For highly committed individuals, there will be opportunity to obtain funding through the lab or via the INI Summer Scholars Program.
Neuroscience majors should also enroll in BIOL:4995/PSY:4995 - Honors Research in Neuroscience to obtain course credit.
For UI and non-UI students, please consider our Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) or Biomedical Scholars Summer Undergraduate Research Program (BSURP).
Research Specialist
A research specialist position (typically 1-2 years) is an ideal experience for someone who plans to apply to advanced training programs in medicine, psychology or neuroscience, but would benefit from more lab experience beforehand.
